Shenbagam : Endorsing health equity in cancer care
We believe that access to quality  cancer care needs to be expanded to ensure that everybody is provided the same care and access to state-of-the-art technology that patients in major care centers receive. Fear of cancer, perceived cost of care, and lack of  referral are common barriers to cancer screening and other preventive services.
****
Shenbagam Cancer Care owes its inspiration
to late Prof. Dr. Udaya Mahadevan
whose lived wisdom contineus to guide its trajectory.

Closing the Gaps in Women's Cancer Care

Millions in India, afflicted by serious illnesses, have been trapped into a vicious cycle of helplessness. Their challenge is not lack of access to health care; but their challenge is to be able to access a robust caring community to lessen their burden.
They are written off as liability, even by their primary family due to unmitigated economic predicament.

Women patients needing terminal care face twice discrimination and stigma; they need to be treated with equity.

We vow to stand by these weak and vulnerable.

We are  sharing consciousness with those fading into eternity,
 to die consciously with dignity.

-Late Prof. Dr Udaya Mahadevan,
(Dept. of Social Work, Loyola College.)

Our Vision
To promote equity based palliative care, integrated horizontally across health care system starting at India’s PHCs; to increase access to preventive cancer care;  with a special focus on women, for pain relief
and quality palliative care.

 Our Mission
To create effective models of pain relief and quality palliative care services and replicate them across India through training, education,
 capacity building, advocacy and research.

                     Our Core Charisms

  • Patient care is the centre of our mission.
  • Our commitment is pivoted on Patient and his family.
  • Quality care is right of every human being  and it is to be free from any form of discrimination related to  gender or geographical location.
  • Professional commitment, competence and compassion are the triune forces that drive our service delivery.
  • We believe in fostering human dignity and equality in all our relationships with all individuals.
  • We endorse timeless principles of social equity

                                         Our Team

Our  multidisciplinary team (MDT) ushers in palliative care, providing comprehensive, patient-centered care.

They work collaboratively to address the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of patients and their families.

This team includes professionals like doctors, nurses,
therapists, social workers, psychologists, and spiritual advisors.

Cancer Awareness & Cancer Early Stage Detection Camps

We regularly conduct cancer awareness camps targeting rural India; marginalized groups; government sector; and private corporate sector. Talks are given about Harmful Effects of tobacco use, HPV virus and cancer vaccine. Cancer Early Stage Detection camps : Cancer Screening is looking for cancer before a person has any symptoms. This can help find cancer at an early stage. When abnormal tissue or cancer is found early, it may be easier to treat. Cancer Early Stage Detection camps are conducted with focus on oral, cervical and breast cancer. Our bold goal is to make early-stage detection an essential part of the standard of care for all cancers. By doing so we will reduce cancer deaths by 25% in five years and 50% in 10 years.

Palliative Care & End of life Care

We understand our patients are entitled to live life to the fullest throughout their illness and are treated with dignity, empathy and respect: palliative care includes pain relief and psychological and spiritual support both to the patients and their family. End of Life Care : Our End of Life Care program aims to give our patients a dignified and gracious end to their life. We provide our patients dignity at the end of life. We prepare families and friends for their loved one’s death.

Research, Capacity Building and Advocacy

We undertake to advancing palliative care through evidence-based research and public policy advocacy. Our focus has been on promoting health equity, a hassle free access to equitable, inclusive cancer care for all ; a central strategy is to promote inclusive cancer care training to all stakeholders : doctors, nurses, PHCs, social workers, advocacy experts, planners, funding organizations and equity-audit teams etc.
